Mark J. Gherty tried
his first criminal jury trial 6 weeks after
being admitted to practice law in the State of
Wisconsin. He established a reputation for
being an aggressive trial lawyer. He is
licensed to practice in the States of Wisconsin
and Minnesota. He has handled matters in both
State and Federal Court
Mark's practice is
limited to trial work, handling both criminal
and civil matters. He has represented
individuals accused of simple traffic matters,
drug offenses, DWI and boating under the
influence, sexual offenses, white collar crime
and homicide. |
He is a past president of
the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense
Lawyers. He is also a member of the Minnesota
Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, National
Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the
Minnesota Society for Criminal Justice.
Mark also has
extensive experience in handling civil matters
ranging from property line disputes, personal
injury cases, environmental claims and wrongful
death. He has been certified as a Civil
Trial Specialist by the National Board of
Trial Advocacy since 1995.
He is an experienced
lecturer, having made presentations for the
Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense
Lawyers, Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers,
State Bar of Wisconsin, Wisconsin State Public
Defender and Professional Education Systems,
Inc. Mark has taught as one of four visiting
lecturers in the criminal law portion of the "General
Practice Skills Course/Lawyering Skills Course"
at the University of Wisconsin - Madison Law
School every other year since 1994. Mark has
been interviewed by Wisconsin Public Radio and
Minnesota Public Radio. A 1997 wrongful death
trial was featured in Minneapolis St. Paul
Magazine and CBS News 48 Hours.
He believes in strong
community involvement. He has served on several
boards for various organizations, including the
The Phipps Center for the Arts, Hudson Community
Fund, Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce and
Tourism Bureau, Hudson Daybreak Rotary, Hudson
Area United Way, Hudson Junior Achievement,
Willow River Ski Club and the University of
Wisconsin - River Falls Foundation.
He is a avid inline skater and 20 year
participant in the American Birkebeiner.
